I strongly believe in the above sentiment. Often times in relationships jealousy gets in the way, but why are we jealous? What are we afraid of losing? In a highly monogamous society, we are raised to be loyal and dedicated and so whenever our significant other offers affection to someone else, as benign as it may be, we feel threatened. But why? 
Do we really feel so insecure that we are afraid another person will steal our love away? Is our relationship so damaged that this new person can offer something miraculous that we are no longer able to provide ourselves? Or are we worried that the new intrigue and lust will cloud our partner’s judgment so much so that they’d abandon us, all our history and forgo their responsibilities? Perhaps it’s not so farfetched, people do have affairs and relationships do break up. But do they break up because the other person wanted a new start or because they could not be forgiven in their infidelity, or because things were already broken before the affair?
